مقدمه :

مکانیک خاک يكي از علوم مهندسي ميباشد كه چندان هم قديمي نيست و در همين دو صده اخير بوجود آمده است . مطالعه علمي خاك از ديدگاه مهندسي از قرن هيجدهم با كارهاي كولمب دانشمند فرانسوي آغاز شده است . كولمب با ارائه نظريه رانش خاك در سال 1776 احتمالا اولين كسي است كه به بررسي علمي خاك پرداخته است . مي دانيم هر نوع دانشي بنيانگذاراني دارد وآن علم را ميتوان به فرد يا گروهي نسبت داد كه ممكن است اين افراد باهم هم  عصر بوده ويا در زمانهاي متفاوت آن علم ويا تكنولوژي را بوجود آورده باشند پس تاريخ يك علم را مي توان تاريخ فعاليتهاي بنيانگذاران آن علم دانست.  در گذشته به علت اينكه ساخته هاي بشري در عرصه سازه هاي ساختماني وسيع نبود وبه خانه هاي خشتي ,سنگي وچوبي معطوف مي شد نيازي به شناختن خواص خاك نبود وبا اندكي تجربه چشمي و لمسي مي شد در مورد خاك قضاوت كرد كه اكنون هم از اين تجارب چشمي در بعضي صنايع مثل آجرپزي وكوزه گري, استفاده مي شود . ولي با توسعه نيازهاي انساني ويشرفت هاي علوم فيزيك سيالات يا همان مكانيك سيالات كه توسط دانشمنداني مثل دانيل برنولي كه مفصلا شرح داده خواهدشد , بنيانگذاري شد كه كاربرد زيادي در مسائل مكانيك خاك دارد.نهايتا موجب شد كه اين علم پا بگيرد..

Excavations and Foundations in Soft Soils

در بسیاری از کشورهای دنیا مثل آلمان, هلند و ... مساله ساخت ساز بر روی خاک های نرم, خاکهای با مقاومت برشی پایین و خاک های با تغییرشکل پذیری زیاد مطرح می باشد. روش های زیادی هم برای بهسازی و پی سازی ساختمان های بلند مرتبه (مثل انواع برج ها و سیلوها) و یا سازه های مدفون مثل تونل وجود دارد. باید search کنید. روش های زیادی وجود داره که آن چنان هزینه بر هم نیست.مثلا اگر خاک به دلیل نشست پذیری زیاد دارای ظرفیت باربری کمی است. ممکن است با انواع میکروپایل که هزینه آن از اجرای شمع به مراتب پایین تر است اصلاح شود. انواع پی های گسترده ترکیبی با شمع یا میکرو پایل وجود دارد. لینک دانلود یکی از منابع مفید در زمینه ساخت و ساز روی خاکهای نرم را بریتان میگذارم امیدوارم مفید باشد:

The Channel Tunnel Story

We have written The Channel Tunnel Story from two distinct perspectives. We make no apology for this, but it does merit a little explanation.
Firstly, we wanted to stress that this was a construction project. This may seem an obvious statement, but with so much of the media coverage focused on the financial and legal aspects of the scheme, we felt there was a danger that the huge achievements of the construction workers—10 of whom were killed on the project—would be forgotten. Of course the financial difficulties and contractual rows form a major part of the book.
But in a small way we tried to redress the balance back towards the construction process hence why the three interviews contained in the book are all with people from contractor Transmanche Link—former chief executive Jack Lemley, UK tunnelling director John King, and tunnel miner Graham Fagg.
Secondly, the book is written from a British perspective. This is partly because we have been covering the project for the best part of the last decade from Britain. But it also reflects that the Channel Tunnel was a far more controversial project in Britain than in France. The political opposition was stronger, the interest was greater—indeed in some
strange way the tunnel seemed to threaten a change in Britain’s whole national identity.

Over the years, ongoing developments in steel grades, section shapes and driving techniques have led to a wide range of applications for sheet piling. The applications include securing excavations, waterfront structures, foundations, bridge abutments, noise abatement walls, highway structures, cuttings, landfill and contaminated ground enclosures, and flood protection schemes.
The main engineering advantages of sheet pile walls over other types of wall are:

Detailed information about the HSP sections available can be found in the Sheet Piling Handbook published by ThyssenKrupp GfT Bautechnik. This chapter also includes information on the relevant steel properties, the stress-strain behaviour, steel grade designations, suitability for welding and corrosion. The main driving techniques with their advantages and disadvantages are outlined, and publications containing further information are mentioned.

Chapter 3 describes briefly the field and laboratory investigations required when considering the use of sheet piling and includes the characteristic soil parameters from EAU 2004 as a guide. Of course, the publications referred to plus the valid standards and directives must be taken into account. Geotechnics must always take account of the effects of water. Chapter 4 therefore explains the basics of water flows, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressures, and hydraulic ground failure.

Chapter 5 deals with earth pressure. Reference is made to the classic earth pressure theory of Coulomb, the calculation of earth pressures according to current recommendations and standards, the consideration of special boundary conditions and earth pressure redistribution. Earth pressure calculations are explained by means of examples.

Chapter 6 first outlines the safety concept according to DIN 1054:2005-01 and EAU 2004, which is based on the partial safety factor concept of Eurocode 7. The special feature in the calculation of sheet pile walls is that the earth pressure can act as both action and resistance. First of all, the engineer chooses the structural system for the sheet pile wall, e.g. sheet pile wall with one row of anchors, fixed in the ground. The required length of the sheet piles, the anchor forces and the actions on the cross-section necessary for the design are then determined from the equilibrium and support conditions. The calculation and design procedure are explained by means of simple examples.

Chapter 7 provides an overview of current types of anchors, e.g. anchor piles, grouted anchors, tie rods and retractable raking piles. The most important methods of analysis are explained using two examples. DIN 1054:2005-01 also requires a serviceability analysis (limit state LS 2). The principal options here are the method using the modulus of subgrade reaction (please refer to the Recommendations of the Committee for Excavations, EAB 2006), and the Finite Element Method (FEM). The latter has in the meantime become firmly established in practice thanks to the availability of ever-better computer programs. The experiences gained with FEM and recommendations for its use in the design of retaining wall structures can be found in chapter 8. An example explains the principal steps entailed in the modelling work and the interpretation of the results.

Chapter 9 deals with dolphins. The choice of section depends not only on the design, but also on the transport and the method of driving the section into the subsoil, the corrosion requirements and, possibly, multiple use considerations. Chapter 10 provides helpful information in this respect. All that remains to be said at this point is that this sheet piling manual can offer only a brief, incomplete insight into the current state of the art regarding the engineering, design and construction of sheet pile walls. This handbook was published in March 2006 by the Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) to provide guidance on the principles and practical issues that relate to load testing of bearing piles, and thereby to assist informed decisions about testing requirements on construction projects involving piled foundations.

The FPS anticipates that this handbook will be of particular interest to civil or structural engineers with little or no experience of piling who find themselves in the position of specifying load testing requirements on a project involving piled foundations. The target audience for this publication also includes main contractors, management contractors and young piling engineers. Pile load testing provides an opportunity for continuous improvement in foundation design and construction practices, while at the same time fulfilling its traditional role of design validation and routine quality control of the piling works. In order to achieve this improvement, data from pile tests has to be collected and analysed to enable the piling industry, both individually and collectively, to make the best use of resources. To justify its cost to the industry, pile testing must have a value. The magnitude of this value will be increased through a better understanding of the process and its benefits.

In this handbook the Federation of Piling Specialists aims to provide guidance on issues that should be considered to enable better planning, specification and execution of pile tests, thereby increasing the value of the testing process

This study was conducted under the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Central Federal
Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) contract number DTFH68-03-P-00116. The current practice
in assessing the integrity of newly constructed drilled shaft foundations, or other concrete
structures that contain access tubes, is through the use of nondestructive testing (NDT) methods.
Most common NDT methods include crosshole sonic logging (CSL), gamma-gamma density
logging (GDL), and crosshole sonic logging tomography (CSLT). Numerous studies and field
investigations have been performed to evaluate the accuracy and effectiveness of these NDT
methods in detecting defects in drilled shafts. However, most of these studies have fallen short
to correctly identify and characterize defects for engineering decision making. Or, as stated by
Jerry DiMaggio (2004), FHWA Principal Geotechnical Engineer, “when using (NDT) methods,
the key questions that often must be answered are: (1) Is the test result a false negative? (2)
What are the next steps and who is responsible for incurred cost if a defect is suspected? and
most importantly (3) Is the discontinuity a defect?”

Drilled shafts for many situations offer an economical alternative to driven piles. The Federal Highway Administration (FHW A) has spent considerable time and money in research and developing design and construction guidelines for drilled shafts. However, the full potential of the technology may not be realized because of both the uncertainty of the effects of construction on the actual service behavior and the limited knowledge on either reliable quality control tests to locate and evaluate defects, or inexpensive load test procedures.

The overwhelming majority of drilled shafts built to date have been constructed safely and have perfonned as their designers anticipated. However, the very occasional reported failures highlight the variables and unknowns present when working underground, particularly in water-bearing and potentially caving soils. This results in a lower risk tolerance for a single or double shaft supported pier compared to mUltiple pile
supported foundations.
